Ministry Goals
Medical Ministry:

With the help of the New Guinea Island Foursquare leadership, our vision is to minister to the medical needs of the people. We concur with Samuel Hugh Moffet, a missionary to China and Korea, that meeting basic human needs is inextricably linked with the gospel, just as it was in Jesus’ ministry.

Sometimes social concern is a consequence of evangelism; sometimes it is a bridge to evangelism; and sometimes social action accompanies evangelism and church planting as an integrated activity.

As noted by the Lausanne Covenant, Christian ministry to whole persons – body, mind and soul – as they live in whole communities is called “holistic mission.” The truth of God’s kingdom presents a comprehensive vision of God’s purpose to redeem and to rule. No person and no portion of the communities of earth are beyond God’s concern. This comprehensive vision enables Christians like us to seek God’s ways and timing to touch the entire range of human need. The vision of the kingdom of God motivates and integrates our mission efforts.

Together with the Foursquare regional and provincial supervisors, a five-year medical ministry vision plan for the P.N.G. Islands region has been written. We believe that this is a vision birthed straight from the heart of God. There is a sense of urgency here for this kind of ministry and we believe that God is already putting together a coalition that will guide this vision, which includes people from the PNG Island medical, government, and church community. The Medical Ministry, which was recently named "The New Hope NGI Foursquare Medical Ministry," is up and running and outreaches to Bougaineville, New Ireland (Lambom Island), and to East New Britain (Mope Ganai Aid Post, Mungou Aid Post, and Lassul Bay) have already been completed. We are seeking funding to purchase a boat soon that will allow us to sail to the surrounding islands and do combined evangelism and medical outreaches. The medical outreaches are already being staffed by PNG people.

Leadership Training and the Bible School:

We are also assisting the Foursquare New Guinea Island leadership with the Leadership Training Institute which is now off and running now with 25 pastors and leaders attending weekly classes. Lori and I have already taught a 12-week class on marraige and premarital counseling. Victor more recently taught a four-week class on Biblical Counseling and Self-Care. The Bible School building project is progressing well. We look forward to contributing to the curriculum of the New Guinea Island Bible School which will start up again in February of 2009.
